We would like to write a few words that we didn't express at the wedding to our parents. Ron and I would like to express our deepest appreciation to our parents for their acceptance and enthusiasm for our relationship over the last three years.
Buzz and Lorraine Jacklin, Ron's parents, had to overlook my lack of golf terminology the first time they met me as I was trying to impress them. While Ron was out of the room getting drinks, I was seating in their living room unknowingly surrounded by golf awards and trophies. I think I said things like "I swung my stick and hit the ball way down the field." Eventually, Ron came back into the room and pointed out their golf accomplishments. Well, I think the conversation changed off of golf after a giggle and a pause. Thank you for giving me a second chance.
Ron, on the other hand, had a somewhat different set of circumstances to contend with. He had to impress my mom, Margaret Luczi, but also my "other" mom and dear friend, Jan Lockley, who has taken a more active role in my life ever since my father passed away in 2001. This is no easy task. These ladies mean business. In fact, when Ron first asked my mom for my hand in marriage, she replied "No big rock, no Doreen". Well much to my relief, Ron pulled through with flying colours. He gave me a beautiful engagement ring. But that wasn't good enough for Jan. Jan is good at reading between the lines. She watched his every move. She's good at that. She's a teacher. Well, there must have been something in his style, grace, or I dare say his wit that impressed her because Jan gave me her wink of approval too. In fact, every time we see Jan, she gives Ron a box of her yummy caramel squares. Both my moms have welcomed Ron with open arms into my family.
